AT Day 103: Into CT Along the Housatonic River
Daily Miles: 28.5, Total Miles: 1,480.4
I used the same taxi service to get a very early start at the TH out of Pawling NY. First, a short climb in the woods, a walk through open cow pastures in a farming area, and next, the pretty Swamp River Boardwalk.

Back in the woods, up and down the rest of the morning, leaving NY and entering CT. I finally reached the large Housatonic River.

I opted to take a short detour to see Bull’s Bridge, a 19th century covered bridge, and take a nice lunch break at the nearby general store. The proprietor was taking a nap on the outdoor picnic table.

Climbed back up on the ridge crest and roughly paralleled the Housatonic River for the rest of a long day on the trail. Longer than I like but camping on the AT is restricted to designating campsites in Connecticut.
Seems like less rock and boulder hopping in NY and CT – hallelujah! New birds for the day: Warbling Vireo, Eastern Kingbird and a Blue-gray Gnatcatcher.
