AT Day 105: Really in New England Now!
Daily Miles: 24.9, Total Miles: 1,528.0
Unlike my late arriving, noisy neighbors tenting nearby, I was up early and quietly got ready for the uphill push back to the AT.

The next stretch included some good views of the Taconic Range from Lion’s Head, Bear Mountain, the highest peak in CT, and Mt Everett, the highest peak in the Southern Taconic Mountains. In the meantime, I also finished Connecticut and crossed into Massachusetts.

I finally dropped down and crossed MA Route 41 into a marshy, then heavily wooded area. My first taste of heavy mosquito activity and first DEET application.

I reached US Route 7 and quickly hitched a ride (thanks Ezra!) into Great Barrington MA. I really feel like I’m in New England now! One of the larger trail towns but still quite compact.
I checked into my motel and found a nearby laundromat. Had some good Mexican food downtown topped off with a salted caramel milkshake from a local creamery. Looking forward to a good rest and some new shoes. Just in time, I feel like I’m now hiking in ragged, soleless boat shoes.
No new birds today but had two turkeys cross the trail in front of me.
