AT Day 111: Into Vermont, Only Three States Left
Daily Miles: 18.4, Total Miles: 1,618.0
An eat and run out of Williamburg MA and back to the trail. Steady climb got me to the Vermont border, 11 states down and 3 to go! This is also the southern terminus of Vermont’s Long Trail and I met my first hiker intending to thru-hike this trail. The Long Trail overlaps with the AT for about 100 miles.
Another sunny day, probably the best weather on this leg of the trail. The shade provided by the green tunnel was welcome. A bit of mud and marshy sections but some nice looking beaver ponds on this stretch.

I dropped down to Route 9 and quickly got a ride into Bennington VT. I checked into the Catamount Motel, perhaps the highest rated 1-star motel I have stayed at. Old but super clean and has everything a hiker wants including a laundry, gas canisters and a market next door. Got my hiker chores started, cleaned myself up and walked the half-mile into downtown to the Union South Bar. Tasty Korean BBQ complete with a fried egg on top and a Burlington Brewing Company Dank IPA. A nice finish to the day!
