AT Day 113: Glastenbury Wilderness
Daily Miles: 19.0, Total Miles: 1,637.0
Late start due to the holiday yesterday and I needed to pick up my resupply box. First one in line this morning. Rained hard from yesterday afternoon until early this morning so happy to start off dry from the motel. Pete, the motel owner, got me back to the trailhead.

A few light showers in the morning and the trail was wet and muddy for the most part. Boardwalks in places helped a bit. Probably still “mud season” in Vermont as well.

Maybe it was the day’s break from the trail, the recent rain or just being in Vermont but I didn’t think the trail could be even greener until today. Especially in the Glastenbury Wilderness, Green Mountain NF. Only a couple of viewpoints but did have a smallish bear break out of the bushes in front of me and scamper down the trail.
I had a late lunch at Goddard Shelter and a nice chat with section hikers, Postman and Driver. No surprises here, a retired postman and a UPS driver, hiking together for the past six years. Also met a Long Trail hiker just starting out. Only hikers I saw all day until I got to Story Spring Shelter in early evening where I saw one enclosed tent and just said hello to the inhabitant. Partly cloudy most of the day and a breeze kept the bugs at bay.
