AT Day 134: Mahoosuc Range to Gentian Pond
Daily Miles: 11.8, Total Miles: 1,910.7
Got back to the TH out of Gorham NH and crossed the Androscoggin River on a road bridge across the Shelburne Dam. I headed up Mt Hayes and up and down over some smaller peaks. Good views back to Mt Washington and Mt Madison and the Carter-Moriah Range.

I passed by a few ponds and small alpine lakes in the Mahoosuc Range. Pretty inviting on a really warm afternoon but I had heard something about leeches.

I stopped at one such pond and the Gentian Pond Shelter. The pond is tannic, slightly yellow and I saw a beaver dam so definitely treating it. Good views down the Androscoggin Valley from the shelter. I set up my tent on another wood platform – getting a bit faster with practice. My energy level was just sapped by the high heat and humidity.

I ran into Roadie and Oadie doing another southbound section today, I think for the 4th time. New birds today: Broad-winged Hawk, maybe not new but it’s been awhile and I saw and heard several today.
