AT Day 154: Many Lakes and Nahmakanta Stream
Daily Miles: 22.2, Total Miles: 2,153.6
Frogs serenaded me all night long at Mountain View Pond. My Bic lighter unfortunately crapped out this morning and one out of ten of my emergency matches worked. I’ve had them in my “kit” for over 12 years and I think age and humidity has taken its toll.
The day started with a small climb up to Little Boardman Mountain. One bar from Verizon so sent Mrs. Haze an OK message. All downhill and mostly flat for the rest of the 100-Mile Wilderness – joy, joy, joy! I arrived at the Jo-Mary Road about 10am at the ten-mile mark for my food drop pickup. Longshot from Shaw’s was already there. I enjoyed an ice-cold Gatorade, a can of Pringles and a Snickers bar from his snack bucket. I packed up my resupply while meeting some southbound hikers and oh yeah, Longshot had a spare lighter. The trail provides!

I passed some really inviting lakes and ponds on a hot and sunny day including Cooper Pond, Jo-Mary Lake and the very large Pemadumcook Lake.

From there, I closely followed picturesque Nahmakanta Stream upstream for over two miles until tempted by a flat spot by the stream covered by a bed of soft pine needles. White noise from the creek will be welcome tonight.
