AZT Day 20: Picketpost Mountain & Superior
Daily Miles: 10.5, Total Miles: 312.3
I headed down to Picketpost Mountain TH and met a large hiking group from Sun City, a retirement community near Phoenix. A nice gentleman insisted that I take his Cliff energy bar. I must have looked hungry or out of energy.
I had one bar on my phone at the TH and called my wife. She and family were a bit frantic because the SPOT OK message had not been transmitted the last two nights. My routine is to send the message while setting up camp so not sure what happened. Fortunately cooler heads prevailed and they were waiting until my planned arrival date in Superior before taking the next step. A reminder that the technology (or user) is not failsafe and the SPOT is primarily an emergency tool for the hiker.

Walked the HWY60 into Superior and had good Mexican food at Los Hermanos. I had last been there when I worked for a summer at the No. 9 shaft Magma underground copper mine while going to the University of Arizona many years ago. I remembered my brother visiting me in Superior and he was very impressed with a bar fight at Los Hermanos. We witnessed the brawl up close and personal while having a few beers at the bar there.
Looking forward to a zero day before heading to Roosevelt Lake.
