CDT: 2nd Leg Wrap-up
Nearly 1,900 miles down and about 850 miles to go on the CDT. I will finish off next summer and hopefully have the company of my sons on some stretches.
I know they were ahead of me and behind me, but I didn’t see many hikers this year. Good thing I don’t mind solitude although I was pretty chatty when I got to a trail town.
I really enjoyed this leg on the CDT with the highlights being Wyoming’s Cirque of Towers, Colorado’s Zirkel Wilderness and the stretch between Monarch Pass and Twin Lakes. The Great Divide Basin was quite the contrast and unique in it’s own right.
No new gear to review this year and the old stuff held up pretty well. I will have more patching to do on the Zpacks Arc Blast pack and probably have to replace worn and frayed guy lines on the Hexamid Solo Plus tent. Hardly used the mini-Sawyer on this leg, preferring the ease and convenience of a small bleach dropper. At least, no giardia this time around!
