CDT Day 119: Straddling the ID/MT Border
Daily Miles: 22.0, Total Miles: 2,082.7
Sam and Sourdough picked me up this morning and we headed to Bannock Pass. Just a note to hikers, please don’t consider a ride from Sam or other service providers a free ride and give a generous donation if you can – time, fuel, and vehicle wear add up big time. Also, if you do call ahead for a ride, don’t take the first available ride down the mountain with someone else. A group of hikers did this while I was there and it was a waste of Sam’s time and effort.

Sourdough and I had a nice hike up and down along a lodgepole pine fenceline on an infrequently travelled road.

The commonality is that both were straddling the ID/MT border. Had a good split today between a shady pine forest and sagebrush hills with nice but hazy views.

The Guthook app showed today to be a dry hike with many miles between water sources. Fortunately we also had Ley maps which proved to be valuable in keeping us hydrated with well-spaced springs with clear, adequate flows.

We set up camp under some trees next to the ridgeline. I wouldn’t be surprised if I am half in Montana and half in Idaho.
