CDT Day 13: Doc’s, Cliff Dwellings & Gila River
Daily Miles: 15.4, Total Miles: 206.6
Rain showers throughout the night and awoke to everything all wet. I packed up and headed to Doc Campbell’s to pick up my next resupply box. I arrived a bit early so hung up my wet gear and clothes on a fence railing to dry. Very nice folks at Doc’s and enjoyed some homemade butterscotch ice cream.
With a heavier load, I road walked to the Gila River Cliff Dwellings and took a tour.

Well worth the detour and extra miles! At the visitors center, it was strongly recommended that I take a bypass route down Little Bear Canyon to avoid a section of the Gila River that suffered the most flood and trail damage.
I got back on the Gila River about six miles upstream and made my way to Jordan Hot Springs.

This part of the canyon is spectacular with high vertical walls and towering pillars and spires. A few small groups are camped nearby.
Another 26 river crossings today, bringing the total to 75.
