CDT Day 154: Red Gap Pass down to Cosley Lake
Daily Miles: 22.0, Total Miles: 2,715.0
I’m in a much better frame of mind after a good night’s sleep. Ryan and I had breakfast at the Swiftcurrent Inn and headed down the road which soon connected to the trail.
Within minutes, we had already seen a bear and one of the largest bull moose I have ever seen – very impressive rack.

We passed by a few nice lakes and started our climb up to Red Gap Pass at 7,500 ft. Would have been a lot more spectacular if visibility had been better.

We did see a group of bighorns, including little ones, near the pass.

A long ways down to Elizabeth Lake, cool looking Dawn Mist Falls and the Belly River that actually flows into Canada. We took a cutoff trail to Cosley Lake which is where our campsite is located. Beautiful spot right on the lake with spacious sites.

The last night on the trail was special with my son there. He shared Snicker bars and some fine beverages he brought (although I carried). Always a bit of emotion however. Glad to be finishing the trail but knowing I will quickly miss the adventure and seeing something new every day.
