CDT Day 2: Hatchet & Little Hatchet Mountains

Daily Miles: 18.3, Total Miles: 32.0

The first destination today was the 2nd water cache, about 11 miles north along the foothills of the Hatchet Mountains. This leg was made longer by full sun exposure and a faint trail between CDT posts through tough limestone rubble.

Hot and thirsty on arrival at the water cache and seeking shade, Trivia, Tragic and I shared a small and diminishing patch of shade provided by the CDT info sign across NM Hwy 81.

After a siesta and some cloud cover, I started up the trail and continued north along the Little Hatchet Mountains. Hiked another seven miles and set up camp in a dry wash. I enjoying a light thunderstorm shower, a distant lightning show, and later, a full moon rising.
