CDT Day 20: Pie Town NM

Daily Miles: 16.2, Total Miles: 324.7

A brisk 16 miles into Pie Town and I stopped at the Toaster House, a hiker hostel owned by Nita. Many hikers staying here, a few new but the rest I have met along the way. Even saw Trivia and Tragic who I started with at the border. Trivia was nursing a badly sprained ankle, compliments of the Gila River. Another hiker had been there ten days trying to recover from a foot injury.

I arrived at 12:20pm thinking that the post office reopened from lunch at 12:30pm, but was told no, they had closed for the day. I hoofed it up there thinking that maybe I could bang on the door and someone would still be closing down. No, locked up and dark. What to do but go across the street to the Pie Town Cafe and have a green chili cheeseburger and a big piece of coconut cream pie, my personal favorite.

Then back to the Toaster House to hang out with the other hikers and have a few beers.
