CDT Day 64: Holy Cross to Tennessee Pass

Daily Miles: 11.6, Total Miles: 1,056.9

I passed several nice lakes through the Holy Cross Wilderness and managed to see some of the nearby high peaks.

I had a scary wildlife encounter, at least the first time it happened. I heard a bird screeching in the trees but couldn’t see it so kept walking. Suddenly a large bird came hurtling over my shoulder from behind me, so close I felt the whoosh in my ear. What I now recognized as some kind of hawk or falcon banked into the trees and made another run at me one minute later. I was either too close to a nest or it didn’t like CDT hikers.

As I arrived at Tennessee Pass, I saw some hikers jumping out of a truck. Turned out to be Uberdude, Baggins and X getting ready to head north. X’s dad gave me a quick ride into Leadville, thanks Larry!

May have to check out some fireworks on my zero day.
