CDT Day 8: Burro Mtns & Tyrone Mine
Daily Miles: 23.7, Total Miles: 136.1
I stocked up on water at Goat Camp. While I was filling bottles, a big, black bull came sauntering into the pen to get water from the small round tank – I was the last thing he expected to see – he turned on a dime and made a quick exit.
Pretty much all uphill, I skirted Jack’s Peak and over the top of Burro Peak at just over 8,000 ft. First good climb so was feeling it and rewarded with the first ponderosa pines near the top!

Just over the top of the peak, filled the water bottles at Mud Spring (after overshooting and coming back) – last water for 20 miles until Silver City.

I connected to the Tyrone dirt road and walked east about seven miles past the Tyrone Mine out-of-pit spoils until hitting Hwy 90.
Then a roadwalk north about four miles until finding an accessible spot down into a wash alongside the highway. Earplugs tonight, just in case.
