CDT Day 86: Zero Day in Rawlins
Daily Miles: 0, Total Miles: 1,435.3
I forgot to mention yesterday that my hat blew off my head in a gust of hot wind. The hat was carried high in the air and dropped into a gutter farther down the street. Just as I was reaching for it, another gust pushed the hat into the street where a passing truck ran over it. Now, not only is my hat dirty and salt encrusted, the bill of the hat has a perfect tire imprint. I later threw the hat in with the wash and it’s now as good as new.
Enjoyed my zero day while steeling myself for crossing the Great Divide Basin, part of Wyoming’s Red Desert. None of the water that falls as rain to the ground drains to any ocean, directly or indirectly. I officially started this crossing on yesterday’s hike from Bridger Pass. Will get to the other side near Lander, my next stop.
To avoid the four-mile round trip to the PO this morning, I hired the only taxi in town and got a few other errands done as well. My feet appreciated it.
