CDT Day 97: Wind River Range & Knapsack Col
Daily Miles: 29.6, Total Miles: 1,677.4
I got an early ride to the Elkhart TH to resume my journey through the Wind River Range. Ten miles got me back to the CDT at Little Seneca Lake and then on to Freemont Crossing for lunch. A brief shower made me glad to have my rain jacket back.

Lower Jeans Lake was my favorite for the day – just rock and water but perfectly arranged.

I took a shortcut over Shannon Pass and hooked into the Knapsack Col Trail at Cube Rock Pass. Dropped down through a narrow canyon full of rockslides for a few miles before rejoining the CDT.

I continued to descend along Trail Creek and then the Green River for several miles. I was stopped by a moose and her big baby walking towards me on the CDT. They stopped but clearly wanted right of way up the trail so I moved to the side and let them pass.

I hiked for another mile or so and saw one more moose before setting up camp on the banks of the Green River.
