CT Day 24: La Garita Wilderness & Snow Mesa

Daily Miles: 10.5, Total Miles: 357.9

4:20am wake-up and 5am start with headlamps on. We headed out for the three miles to the high point for sunrise.

Stars were bright and I saw the reflective eyes of a few animals. Probably deer in the forest below the trail.

We got to the top for a beautiful sunrise, snapped a few pics and headed down to treeless Snow Mesa. Only a few more miles to Spring Creek Pass and Hwy 149.

A friend of MB and Yaya squeezed us all into her truck. She drove us into Lake City straight to the bakery for a delicious breakfast. They all dropped me off at Lake City Lodge where I’m taking a zero day tomorrow. MB and Yaya will return to the trail tomorrow.

Nice, little quiet place here and I even managed to get my clothes washed. Cleaned up my gear, picked up my resupply box, and later, couldn’t resist a chicken fried steak dinner at Southern Vittles, their specialty.

Bed feels great – no problem getting to sleep tonight.
