DWTH Day 44: Along Amboy Road & Sheephole Mtns

Daily Miles: 19.0, Total Miles: 690.1

Still concerned about a fixed end date and wanting a continuous footpath, I decided to proceed south on or near the Amboy Road on a more direct route through the Sheephole Mountains.

Near where Amboy Road swings west, I stuck my thumb out and was surprisingly picked up by the 4th vehicle to come by. Michelle (Jitterbug) and Jeremy had hiked the AT last year and said they stopped because I had “the look” of a thru-hiker. So nice, they took me straight into 29 Palms to my hotel.

Washed clothes, cleaned up and headed to nearly Wing-n-it, advertising Louisiana soul food, seemingly out of place in the Mohave Desert. Let’s just say I got my fill of spicy wings, fried fish, shrimp and potato salad – a pleasant surprise.

So nice to be in a warm and comfortable bed, most appreciated after this last week.
