GET Day 18: Zero Day in Safford

A much needed day of rest to give the mind and body a good recharge.

I repaired one tent zipper but got too aggressive with the other one – still OK, just a one-zippered tent. Picked up a few items for the next stretch to Morenci and beyond. I searched for a small gas canister but the nearest one was in nearby Thatcher – tried hitching for a bit but ultimately had to settle for a hulking 16oz Coleman canister from nearby Walmart. Biggest one I have ever carried – this could last me the rest of the way! A rational person would probably go stoveless.

Safford, for the good size, could use a few good restaurants and maybe a brewery. Maybe combined with a desire for less walking, I settled for leftover pizza, dried prunes and smoked almonds – not a bad combination.
