GET Day 42: Into Magdalena
Daily Miles: 7.0, Total Miles: 591.0
I woke up too early this morning – I guess anxious to get to town, maybe hunger. Hit the road with my headlamp to guide me but didn’t need it long. A beautiful, colorful sunrise coming into Magdalena – the sky looked like it was on fire.

I got to the Magdalena Cafe just as they were opening up. Then to Wells Fargo just as they were opening up. Another good thing I got to town today is because the bank doesn’t have Saturday hours or an ATM. Next was early arrival at the High Country Lodge. Reasonable rates and $5 for a much needed load of wash. Speaking of needing a wash, my feet and legs were caked with dirt and ash from the last four days.

So weary from my chores, I took a nice, long nap. I woke up hungry and returned to the cafe, only game in town tonight, for the fried shrimp special. Had a cold one at the Golden Spur Saloon and met a cowboy, who with all seriousness, asked me if I had seen any aliens or UFOs in the San Mateo Mountains. His story was that there have been reported sightings there that go all the way back to the UFO crash near Roswell NM.
