HDT Day 11: Fable Valley to Young’s Canyon
Daily Miles: 14.8, Total Miles: 143.4
Another day and another wash to take me out of Beef Basin and onto a short dirt road to the Fable Valley TH. The trail register showed several Haydukers this year, the last one passing through two days ahead of me. Most of the trail was well cairned. The rugged Fable Canyon scenery and gurgling streams were delightful.

I exited Fable Valley into a side canyon hiking upstream. Had to find my way around a few pouroffs, not exceptionally difficult but slow going.

Late in the afternoon, I finally stepped into Young’s Canyon and started the mother of all pouroffs, made more difficult because you have to drop to the canyon floor, navigate downstream aways, then climb completely out and alongside the canyon to get around the pouroff. Exhausting! I camped near the Young’s Canyon Overlook – hope I can get down to the bottom of the canyon without a more substantial rope (I do carry parachute cord for hoisting and dropping my pack).

The new zipper I put on my Zpacks sleeping bag has already crapped out. I figure I will now use the bag as a quilt. One of my new Evernew water bags sprung a leak, darn, I’ve had good luck with these in the past.
