HDT Day 29: Last Chance to Paradise Canyon
Daily Miles: 21.9, Total Miles: 385.8
I went to sleep last night thinking about my phone. Did I reset or lose everything or it did it just plain die? Hooked the phone to my almost drained external battery and the phone powered on normally. What a relief – but still not sure what happened.
It was a long haul up muddy Last Chance Creek, some 16 miles. Tried to keep my feet dry the first two crossings but then gave up and slogged on.
I was having lunch where a dirt road crosses the wash thinking that this road may get just a couple of vehicles per year, when suddenly a Jeep appears in the wash. I don’t know who was more surprised but thanks for the cold water! First person I have seen on this stretch.
I turned up Paradise Canyon for about five miles and was still looking for a sign of paradise. The water is still silty and there’s been herds of cattle through here. But it’s still a pretty canyon, very quiet except for the hummingbird trying to get into my tent.

And another thing I have failed to mention – the night skies are incredibly brilliant.
