MRT Day 34: The Finish Line in Alma NM
Daily Miles: 9.0, Total Miles: 481.5
Another two-cups of coffee morning in no particular rush. I was a bit surprised as I was getting ready that it was overcast and threatening to rain.
Sure enough, as I got to Sunflower Mesa Road and joined the familiar Grand Enchantment Trail, I was forced to stop and put on my rain jacket. It drizzled the rest of the way into Alma, my final destination.

When passing through on the GET, I was so disappointed the Alma Grill was closed – not today! I had a leisurely breakfast as Mrs. Haze wasn’t expected until late afternoon. I then hobbled over to the General Store for a snack and beverage. I read my book for a few hours and then returned to the Grill for a cook recommended green chili beef burrito. They close at 3pm so I couldn’t return for dinner.

Mrs. Haze and Ellie, our black lab, showed up just after 3pm. Ellie once again overjoyed that I’ve returned from the dead. We headed to Silver City for another feeding, pizza and beer, topped off by a delicious cherry pie Mrs. Haze brought from home.
The bed tonight felt wonderful but I did have a bit of a tummy ache. Wonder why?
Probably goes without saying but I did enjoy the MRT. It met my expectation in terms of connecting a lot of dots for me but also some new surprises, challenges and beauty along the way.
I’ll share some more thoughts after I get home and unpack from this trip.
