PCT Day 1: One Way Hike Baby!
Daily Miles: 20.0, Total Miles: 20.0
No more loop trails or out-and backs!
After my brother whipped up a delicious breakfast of salmon, eggs and hash browns, we headed to Campo. When nearly there, we saw the Border Patrol escorting a few men with hands over their heads to the BP vehicles. Saw several hiker groups heading through Campo but we had the monument to ourselves. Then customary photos, register signing and goodbyes to Mrs. Haze, by brother and sister-in-law.

I saw ten hikers in the first two hours, more than I saw for the entire AZT. I expect it doesn’t take long for hikers to spread out with different paces and destinations. A very pleasant, clear day, cool to start but warming up. Some blue lilac bushes are in full bloom with a sweet fragrance.

A final 1,000 ft elevation gain for the day and then down to Lake Morena.
I shared a campsite with a young couple from Boulder, CO I had been leapfrogging with late in the day. The campground is full to capacity with what looks like a rowdy jeep club.
