PCT Day 119: First Day in Washington
Daily Miles: 25.7, Total Miles: 2180.7
I had a good breakfast of pancakes and eggs at the Charburger and then a short walk to the Bridge of Gods. The toll booth attendant gave me a high five – I guess this was my toll?

Bit of a slow start on the WA side because the ripe blackberries were too good to pass up. I finally had to get going – 3,300 ft climb in front of me. Dense forest and thick, green foliage, sometimes high against the trail, made me a bit claustrophobic. I tried not to step on the four 6″ long, dark green slugs crossing the trail. Felt like the humidity was very high today.
I descended 2,000 ft to Rock Creek, then climbed 1,700 ft back up and set up camp below Sedum Point.
I was warned today by a section hiker that there were some angry wasps on the trail south of Trout Creek. All four of their party were stung at least once. She said the affected area is marked on both ends of the trail by a piece of white paper that is marked WASPS! She said don’t stop to read the warning, just RUN through this area as fast as you can! Duly noted.
The only thru-hiker I met today was Red Beard.
