PCT Day 138: Suiattle River & More Glacier Peak
Daily Miles: 26.0, Total Miles: 2570.5
A new bridge was built over the Suiattle River two years ago and adds about five miles to the PCT. Hikers previously had used a log crossing, high above the river that most would straddle the log and inch across.
I headed down to this impressive new bridge – proper concrete footings and steel beams. Probably would survive a tree falling on it but a big avalanche or flood could still wash it away.

I soon ran into Track Meat who had tried to take the old PCT and cross the log to save five miles. He couldn’t find the trail on the other side so back across the log to take the new trail and bridge.
I climbed 3,500 ft from the river to Miner’s Ridge and Suiattle Pass. Excellent view of Glacier Peak and deep side canyons.

The trail then descended across bouldered canyons before dropping into the Agnes Creek drainage. The bridge was washed out so waded across but only ankle deep. Afterwards, I noticed a log crossing downstream.

I continued on to Spruce Creek Camp and set up camp next to Doublet and Gumby.
Definitely noticing the days getting shorter – dark when I get up and dark getting into the tent after dinner. Only six more sleeps as Mrs. Haze would say!
