PCT Day 36: Piute Mountains
Daily Miles: 20.8, Total Miles: 604.2
The tent somehow held together in the howling, gusting winds. Ear plugs allowed me to get a little sleep. No coffee this morning because the wind would blow out the flame on the stove.
I stocked up at Golden Oaks Spring just down the trail. Several hikers camped around here last night, most I know from earlier on the trail.
The trail wound through another set of wind turbines planted on the ridgetops. Much of this morning’s walk was through burnt out remains of a forest – must be recent as little has grown back. Around mid-day, I got back into a good stand of pines and oaks in the Piute Mountains above 6,000 ft. I filled water bottles again at Robin Bird Spring – good flow.

I hiked into Jawbone Canyon and set up camp near Cottonwood Creek above 6,500 ft elevation.

Hopefully a calmer night but the wind is still roaring through the treetops.
