PCT Day 47: Forester Pass & Kings Canyon NP
Daily Miles: 21.0, Total Miles: 787.3
I was told I was snoring my 8pm last night.
The PCT for the most of the next 176 miles is also the John Muir Trail. Got another early start for the climb to Forester Pass at 13,180 ft, the highest point on the PCT.
A few hours into the hike, I was having some chest pain – hoping not heart problems with the exertion and elevation. Fortunately a false alarm – with some relief, I found that my shoulder strap on my backpack was chaffing one of my nipples.

I can see why Forester Pass would be intimidating in heavy snow years. Not the case this year – only one snowpack to cross in a chute high up on the south side.

Incredible views from the top and somewhat relieved!

The north descent had more snow but relatively easy postholing on the way down. More great views – the pass also serves as the boundary for entering Kings Canyon National Park.
Followed the very pretty Bubbs Creek down the canyon and camped at Vidette Meadows below the towering, majestic Vidette Peak.

Mosquitos are finally getting annoying – may have to break out the head net soon. Besides 5-Star, saw only one other thru-hiker today.
Going out Kersage Pass tomorrow to pick up a re-supply box in Independence and then take a zero day in Lone Pine. I am quite filthy and hungry.
