PCT Day 65: Carson-Iceberg Wilderness
Daily Miles: 18.3, Total Miles: 1036.8
A crystal-clear morning so good to go from Bridgeport. I thought the hitch back to Sonora Pass would be difficult and it was. I walked to the other end of town and was joined by Wild Child, also looking for a lift. We were then joined by two more hikers. After three hours, Tyler and his mother squeezed us and gear in the car and got us to Highway 108. Tyler’s grandmother owns the local fast-food joint where I got my banana split! After another 30 minutes, a section hiker picked us up and took us the rest of the way. Thanks Wes!
The trail entered the Carson-Iceberg Wilderness and I climbed to a ridge crest on the north side of Sonora Pass. Great views of the volcanic peaks and pinnacles.
I descended along East Fork Carson River and dropped below 10,000 ft, the last time we will be that high again on the PCT. I eventually climbed up the west canyon wall, crossed over into another canyon and passed Golden Lake.

I ran into James and Claire near the end of the day. Coming off of Sonora Pass yesterday, they were “rescued” from the bad weather. A couple took them to their cabin, fed them and put them up for the night.
Found a campsite near the top of Murray Canyon with colorful skies at sunset.
