PCT Day 68: Desolation Wilderness
Daily Miles: 21.4, Total Miles: 1114.3
After a McDonalds breakfast in South Lake Tahoe, I hitched back to the TH past Echo Summit.
A quick hike to Echo Lake and the General Store – I highly recommend the mango and banana milkshake. I said goodbye to James and Claire who are skipping up to Ashland to hike through Oregon. All the best!
I hiked along the length of Echo Lake and entered Desolation Wilderness. Lake Aloha was strikingly beautiful so I had to stop for lunch.

I passed by several more lakes gouged out by glaciers through the day. Tempted to take a dip on this warm day but kept moving. Late in the afternoon, I climbed up to Dicks Pass with even more great views of the Desolation Wilderness.

More inviting lakes on the descent from Dicks Pass.

I have been hearing and occasionally seeing grouse since entering the Sierras and today was not an exception. They make a very unique vibrating, drumming call.
I had to put on my head net on while setting up my camp about 7pm. Lint and Brooks came by a bit later and camped nearby.
