PCT Day 82: Lassen NP to Old Station

Daily Miles: 21.1, Total Miles: 1377.8

I didn’t want to start the day with wet feet so looked hard for logs or rocks to cross Kings Creek. I found widely spaced rocks in deep pools upstream. Made it across with quite a leap and balancing act.

Shortly thereafter I thought something was falling from the trees above. I then realized it was sprinkling – didn’t last long but the clouds snuck up on me.

I passed by several lakes and entered an extensive burn area before crossing the park boundary. Good views and even closer proximity to Lassen Peak.

I had lunch and got water at Hat Creek – temperatures well into the nineties. Continued into Old Station and got a mint chocolate chip milkshake while deciding the next move. My decision – get a motel room at the Hat Creek Resort and leave early in the morning to tackle the 30-mile waterless section on the Hat Creek Rim.
