PCT Day 85: Grizzly Peak & Deer Creek

I continued the climb started yesterday and broke out of the forest with views of Bald Mountain and Grizzly Peak. Some great views of Mt Shasta but also obvious this is logging country – evidence of clearcut logging, some old, some new.

I skirted the edge of Grizzly Peak and started the long descent to Deer Creek. A deer was coming up the trail while I was going down. The doe kept coming at me not wanting to give up the trail because it was so steep both up and down. I thought two can play this game so I also kept going down. I faked left and went right. The doe faked right and went left and somehow we squeezed by each other. Technically I won because one of the doe’s hoofs was out of bounds.

Camped past Deer Creek in a side canyon with a spring. Didn’t see another soul today.
