PCT Day 88: Zero Day in Dunsmuir

A Post office trip and usual hiker chores today but did take a swim in the pool. Otherwise, enjoyed the air-conditioned room.

What else does Purple Haze do on the trail besides hike, eat and sleep? I do try to read a few pages every night but sometimes fall asleep on the first page. I have finished a few books I have loaded up on my iPhone.

  • Flight Behavior by Barbara Kingsolver – I have liked some of her books and this one had an interesting storyline but I had trouble getting through this one – seemed way too long.
  • Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn – quick read and plot twists kept my interest. Gave me some weird dreams. How well do you know your wife?
  • The Cold Dish by Craig Johnson – the first of the Longmire series about a sheriff in Wyoming. I saw Craig at this year’s Tucson Book Festival and enjoyed his talk.
  • The Yellow Birds by Kevin Powers – good book but extremely dark and depressing story about two soldiers in the Iraq War.

Nice rest today – back to the trail and a long climb tomorrow.
