PCT Day 96: Oregon Border to Mt Ashland
Daily Miles: 29.1, Total Miles: 1717.8
Last night I finished a book recommended by Mrs. Haze – The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry by Rachel Joyce. This is a moving novel about a recent retiree who left his house to walk to his mailbox. He ended up on a 600-mile walk across England. The real story is about the reasons for this journey and his experiences on the way. Suffice to say everyone should hike their own hike.
The first couple of springs today were torn up and pooped on by “wilderness” cows. I was out of water by the time I got to Bearground Spring which fortunately was a good one.
Ten miles into the hike, I crossed into Oregon where I spent my first 12 years. I signed the border trail register and took pictures.

The California section of the trail is 1,700 miles long, 64% of the whole PCT.
I was soon joined by Puma and Tumbleweed. No champagne or beer for celebration so Puma shared his last remaining pancake from the Challenge.

I ended the day at the Mt Ashland CG – so nice to have a picnic table. Cool and breezy evening – smoke was still very heavy today.
