SKIT Day 26: Santa Teresas & Buford Hills
Daily Miles: 17.6, Total Miles: 343.3
I said goodbye to Horsehead Lodge, Adam and Tucker, his yellow lab, and headed back down Klondyke Road. Hooked up with the Buford Hills GET alternative that took me along the southern flank of the Santa Teresa Mountains for almost 13 miles.

The rugged, jagged mountains are impressive but fire scarred since I hiked the GET in 2018. Purple and yellow flowers were out in full force adding to the beauty of this place.

I eventually rejoined the Klondyke Road and continued east until reaching Register Tank. I had previously placed a small water and food cache. To my surprise, the cache was not in the juniper tree thicket I thought it was in. Extremely disappointed in mankind (or animal kind). I continued to search behind other nearby junipers and was about to consult the pics I took on my caching trip when there it was! A relief but now more weight.

Loaded up, I started into the foothills of the Pinaleno Mountains in a consistent wind. I found a wide spot on a primitive road that offered a little protection, but still a challenge to get the tent up. May need earplugs tonight.
