SKIT Day 4: San Pedro to Hereford
Daily Miles: 14.5, Total Miles: 61.7
An owl hooted for hours last night, sometimes getting an answer.

I headed out on a bright, sunny morning on a sometimes weed-choked trail. My first destination was the San Pedro House, an historic ranch house restored by the Friends of the San Pedro River. After chatting with the caretaker for a few minutes, I filled up my water bottles and returned to the banks of the river on a well-groomed trail.

The SKIT route then veered off to stay closer to the San Pedro. This started a frustrating and painful two miles of wading through 4 ft tall grass and Russian thistle (tumbleweeds). I couldn’t see my feet through much of it was covered with sharp burrs. If ever a need for snake gaiters, this was it. Either I lost the trail or the game trails have been overgrown with the heavy monsoon season.

I was so relieved to bust out on a good trail/road and finished the last seven miles to my destination, Casa de San Pedro B&B, south of Hereford Road. I had made reservations so Mrs. Haze and Ellie could join me for a zero day. I was able to check-in, take a shower and start washing my dusty, burr-infested clothes before they arrived. We later barbecued some juicy steaks and shared a nice bottle of red. A great evening!
