SKIT: Here We Go Again!
I got a good start on the 500-mile Sky Islands Traverse (SKIT) late last fall in SE Arizona. I got about halfway before the holidays caught up with me and had to get off trail. Briefly, I started in the Dragoon Mountains and hiked in a clockwise fashion over the Dragoons, south down the San Pedro River, west and up over the Huachuca Mountains, met the AZT and continued north to Patagonia and the Santa Rita Mountains, up and over the Rincons and finished near the top of the Santa Catalinas just north of Tucson.
I will resume the SKIT in early April, heading east off the Catalinas to the Galiuro Wilderness, Klondyke, through the Santa Teresa Mountains, over the Pinaleno Mountains, south to the Dos Cabezas Mountains, Fort Bowie, and finish in the stunning Chiricahua Mountains near the Mexico border. The SKIT is the creation of Brett Tucker who has the 770-mile Grand Enchantment Trail (GET), 500-mile Mogollon Rim Trail (MRT), and other routes under his belt.
