DWTH Day 42: Bristol Mountains
Daily Miles: 19.0, Total Miles: 650.6
Another morning of slushy water bottles but I think there’s a warming trend coming.
I headed south along the base of the scenic Granite Mountains and enjoyed the short but sweet x-country section weaving through the big rocks. In the interests of my “fixed” end date, I opted to take a more direct route along Kelbacker Road, helped by sparse traffic, and crossed under I-40. A ‘resting” CA highway patrolman at the underpass rolled his window down and asked me if I was having a nice hike and whether I did this often.

A short while later. I turned SW on the Needles to Ludlow Truck Trail/gas pipeline road, a long, straight as an arrow route straight up into the Bristol Mountains and rejoined the DWTH route near mi 95. Needless to say, I didn’t see any trucks or people along the way, but I did like the vast, isolated desert scenery.

I found a tent site with the least amount of rocks and enjoyed a clear, calm and warmer evening with brilliant stars and night sky. I’m in reach of Amboy tomorrow to pick up my last mailed resupply box.
