PNT Day 7: Whitefish Divide to Blue Sky Trail

Daily Miles: 17.2, Total Miles: 95.6

I packed up and continued north in the Kootenai National Forest on the very dry Whitefish Divide Trail for 10 miles.

It would have been nice for the Divide to be level but it went steeply up and down several times totaling over 4k total vertical feet for the day eventually going over Mt Locke before dropping down to the Blue Sky Trail and a large burn area.

I then followed Blue Sky Creek down for several miles on the Blue Sky Trail and thankfully and very thirsty, encountered running side tributaries for refreshing and much needed water on a warm afternoon. Here I encountered another section of heavily vegetated trail with very plentiful bear scat.

I finally set up camp at the intersection of the trail and FR 114, Grave Creek Trail Road. As I was setting up camp, I met Ryan who is section hiking the PNT with the use of his truck and bike. He is making good progress on the National Scenic Trails.

Another quiet night on trail except for the white noise of Blue Sky Creek.
